No Barriers to Employment for Matthew : Matthew commenced work at Sunnyfield over 11 years ago in 2003, and since this time has proven that barriers to employment can be overcome and that successful and rewarding employment can be achieved. Matthew’s primary disability is a visual impairment. He is only able to see light refractions such as shadows and outlines of objects and people.
Matthew is a dedicated employee, who works in our secondary TGA area assisting supervisors in packing of products and the stacking pallets for dispatch. Matthew enjoys work and always has a positive “can do” attitude, and he states “I like coming to work to earn money and I like working in the TGA area on the jobs I’m given.”
Matthew worked closely with the Guide Dogs Association in learning to travel independently to and from work, as well as assistance in being able to manoeuvre around in the work place.
Upon recommendations from the Guide Dogs Association, additional training was provided to the ESO to assist Matthew in navigating around his work environment. This included helping him to independently identify locations, placement of machinery, pallets, hazardous areas, and the Café and bathroom facilities. Well done Mathew.
